A Healthy Savannah is Smoke-free!

Supported by a generous grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the leadership by our Mayor, Healthy Savannah will lead a grassroots movement to enact the Americans for Nonsmokers' Rights model smoke-free ordinance in the City of Savannah. By enacting a local smoke-free ordinance we will be able to clarify Savannah's current ordinance and close loopholes in the Georgia Clean Air law by eliminating smoking in:
• All workplaces including restaurants and bars
• Long-term care facilities
• Private and semi-private rooms in health care facilities
• International airports
• Convention facilities
• Private clubs
• Retail tobacco stores
• Distances 15 to 20 feet from the entrance to any public building

Please plan to attend a public hearing on July 28th, 7-9 at the Civic Center!

Making the Healthy Choice the Easy Choice
One of the keys to healthy living is knowledge - knowing what foods to eat, knowing about local exercise opportunities, knowing how you can get involved with other partners dedicated to healthy lifestyles.
These are precisely the reasons why the Healthy Savannah Initiative launched this new website in spring of 2010. This site will serve as a tool to help connect the people of Savannah with information and resources for healthy living.
We've included information to help educate people about healthy eating and healthy bodies. Local health-related events will be listed on this site, and website users are encouraged to submit information about additional events as well. A map has been developed to highlight free physical activity opportunities around the Chatham County area. The local projects section offers information about other health-related initiatives and opportunities for involvement.
Please contact us if you have some feedback or would like to get involved in making the healthy choice the easy choice!
