Healthy Savannah's Community Partners/Supporters:

We want to thank Mayor Johnson and the City Council for passing the Savannah Smoke-Free Air Ordinance of 2010. This will be noted in history as one of many giant steps that our community will make toward the vision of Healthy Savannah. Our Vision Statement is simple:  Savannah is a community committed to supporting healthy lifestyles. Thanks to the passage of the Smoke-free Savannah Ordinance, we all can look forward to improved air quality in ALL workplaces, a significant reduction in Emergency Room visits due to heart attacks, as well as a decrease in cancer and other chronic disease. The implementation date of January 1, 2011 will give ample time for Healthy Savannah to work with the city on education & signage for all affected businesses.

Congratulations goes to Amy Hughes for leading the charge in this historic undertaking and to ALL the advocates!!!! Many were able to be present/speak at the public hearings and wrote letters to the editor! There are so many I know I will leave someone out if I try to name everyone. A  big thank you to the Atlanta folks - June Deen from American Lung Association and Eric Bailey from American Cancer Society and the many  other state-level folks for their expertise and involvement.  We are very very grateful to the American for Non-Smokers Rights for fueingl our passions! We are also grateful for the smokefree support of the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids, the State Department of Health, Healthcare Georgia Foundation, the CDC,  and and the many national partners who have also had a hand in supporting Smokefree Savannah

Congratulations to everyone and thanks again for your support!!! Make the Healthy Choice the Easy Choice!! ...Paula Kriessler/Chair, Healthy Savannah Steering Committee
